Looking good has never felt so good!

It’s time for India to get in step with the world and ring in a new era in fashion

Ever begun the day on a really dull note and felt much better once you got all dolled up for the day? Dressing up can be loads of fun and from ties to skirts to little matching trinkets, many of us take a lot of care in looking just right. For many, looking good makes them feel good too, though if you keep up with the times and switch to ethical fashion, we guarantee you will feel good every single day. Ethical fashion is all about clothes and accessories that are made without harming the environment, animals and bettering the lives of the workers/artisans/craftsmen.

Among the most stunning options to get some good karma and pampering yourself are the eco-friendly diamonds, which were brought into India by Renaissance Diamonds last month. Laboratory grown, these diamonds match up to mined diamonds in brilliance and have the identical physical, chemical and optical properties. The difference is that they are cheaper, and as they’re made in labs, there are no environmental or social costs involved....Continue

Low on sugar, lower on spice!

It’ll be tough to turn around SpiceJet without a radical reorganisation

Argentina’s government grows bizarre; inflation, as per them, rocks!

Argentina is bleeding. The sky rocketing inflation is neutralising whatever benefit the high growth rate is giving its population. But surprisingly, to counter this problem, the government has taken bizarre steps to satisfy its electorates. It has doctored Consumer Price Index (CPI) to show inflation lower than what it actually is. The updated CPI (June 10, 2008) shows that each time the price of any product increases too much, it will be taken out from the list presuming that consumers will shift to other products. According to government statistics, inflation is just around 9%, whereas the real figure is terribly higher.

Alfonso Prat-Gay, former Central Bank Governor, estimates the inflation figure to be hovering around a whopping 32%. Dante Sica, Director of Abaceb, a consulting firm, opines that the figure would be 16% to 18%, while Poliarquia, a pollster, reveals the figure was 54% in February and 26% in May, 2008......Continue

Mobile getting personal

IBM plans to extend its expertise to mobile space

The mobile space is going to experience some big blue winds. Why, do you ask? Moving away from its core business of mainframes and software, IBM is now exploring prospects in the mobile web space. The company is betting big on ‘convenience and greater accessibility’, heralding a new paradigm in mobile web applications. And leading this initiative for the company is the India Research laboratory. “In an Era of Mobile web”, said Dr. Daniel Dias, Director, IBM India Research, laboratory, “ the mobile phone has become an electronic wallet, the window to the World Wide Web, an education device and more. In many countries, mobile devices outnumber PCs, credit cards, and TVs.” Globally, projects are getting launched that would make a mobile device even easier to use than the PC, allowing one to negotiate everything one could do with a PC and much more, claimed Dr. Dias. Apparently, IBM Institute for Business Value envisages the number of mobile web users to shoot up to one billion by 2011 and is preparing itself to tap this huge opportunity.....Continue
