IBM plans to extend its expertise to mobile space

The mobile space is going to experience some big blue winds. Why, do you ask? Moving away from its core business of mainframes and software, IBM is now exploring prospects in the mobile web space. The company is betting big on ‘convenience and greater accessibility’, heralding a new paradigm in mobile web applications. And leading this initiative for the company is the India Research laboratory. “In an Era of Mobile web”, said Dr. Daniel Dias, Director, IBM India Research, laboratory, “ the mobile phone has become an electronic wallet, the window to the World Wide Web, an education device and more. In many countries, mobile devices outnumber PCs, credit cards, and TVs.” Globally, projects are getting launched that would make a mobile device even easier to use than the PC, allowing one to negotiate everything one could do with a PC and much more, claimed Dr. Dias. Apparently, IBM Institute for Business Value envisages the number of mobile web users to shoot up to one billion by 2011 and is preparing itself to tap this huge opportunity.....Continue
